ADVANCED BAND (SYMPHONIC WINDS 2)

Grades: 9-12

Prerequisite: Two or more years of previous study is recommended and teacher approval based on audition.

Fee: $35 per semester (Additional $25 fee per semester ($50 for the year) for school owned instruments).

This course will cover all music fundamentals, instrumental techniques, and literature from the advanced 9th-10th grade levels to help prepare students to audition for the Symphonic Winds 1/Wind Ensemble.

AP MUSIC THEORY

Grades: 10-12

Prerequisite: 2 years music at BRHS and teacher approval

Fee: $30 plus AP Exam fee Students who take this class are required to take the AP exam.

The primary objective of this course is the development of aural skills to be able to sing and write melodic and harmonic dictation. Throughout the course, students will have to listen to musical works attentively and analytically, develop their musical memory and their ability to articulate responses to formal, stylistic, and aesthetic qualities of works.

JAZZ ENSEMBLE

Grades: 9-12

Prerequisite: Teacher approval based on student’s audition and at least three or more years of musical experience

Fee: $70 (Additional $25 fee per semester ($50 for the year) for school owned instruments).

This course will cover a variety of styles and interpretations for the best literature written for the jazz medium.

 

MUSIC AND TECHNOLOGY/JAZZ IMPROVISATION

Grades: 9-12

Prerequisite: Teacher approval and at least three or more years of musical experience

Fee: $70 (Additional $25 fee per semester ($50 for the year) for school owned instruments).

This course will focus on small group Jazz improvisation and recording techniques.

 

WIND ENSEMBLE (SYMPHONIC WINDS 1)

Grades: 9-12

Prerequisite: Teacher approval based on playing/performance audition, four or more years of previous study, up to the 11th grade level; private study for mature sounds and techniques is suggested as this is the top concert/symphonic band class. Fee: $70 (Additional $25 fee per semester ($50 for the year) for school owned instruments).

This class will perform a variety of the best band literature as the "Wind Ensemble", “Symphonic Wind Band”. Students will be chosen from the Symphonic Winds to serve as the wind section for full orchestra.
