Prerequisite: Recommendation of Middle School Orchestra Director and an audition with the instructor. Students must have prior experience performing on violin, viola, cello, bass, or harp. 

Class Fee: $70 (Additional $25 fee per semester for school owned instruments). 

The Advanced Orchestra is both a performing ensemble and skills-development ensemble. Most rising 9th graders are expected to have already achieved the skill level necessary to perform at the high school level. This Orchestra places an emphasis on the advancement of instrumental technique, further development of music reading and comprehension skills, independent musicianship, style, and a deeper understanding of small group ensemble music, and orchestral literature. Other goals include the mastery of new keys and finger patterns, tuning, proficiency in third position and knowledge of other positions, vibrato and overall improvement of intonation and tone quality.
